New Trailer for Venom 2: Let There Be Carnage
A new teaser poster (above) and a trailer (below) for the sequel to Venom has been released today! Sony Pictures dropped the trailer for the next film in their non-Spider-Man Universe - Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Directed by Andy Serkis and starring Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock/Venom and Woody Harrelson as Kletus Cassady/Carnage.
Cletus’ character was teased in a post credits scene in the first Venom movie, so when it was announced that there would be a sequel and it would indeed include Carnage, fans were pretty excited to say the least.
While Venom is a Marvel Comics property, it was one of the many Marvel comics characters and villains not included in the deal with Disney. Venom, along with Spider-Man, are some of the Marvel characters Sony Pictures still owns the movie rights to. We talked a little about this over two years ago on one of our podcast episodes, so you can listen to that for some more insight.
For the recent Spider-Man films, Sony has made exclusive deals with Disney to include Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the current MCU films. Movie Venom is solely owned by Sony Pictures and Sony hopes to develop a non-Spider-Man Cinematic Universe, involving the supporting characters of the Spider-Man comics, with the release of the Venom films and the upcoming Morbius film starring Jared Leto, and others as well. One would think that if Sony can cultivate this non-Spider-Man Cinematic Universe, they will be able to drop Spider-Man into these stories and already developed timelines in the future once their deal with Disney is done.
