Zack Snyder's Justice League Official Soundtrack
With the release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League on HBO Max last Thursday, March 18th, 2021, an official soundtrack was also released. Tom Holkenborg, aka JunkieXL, had been tasked to score the film when it was originally set to be released in November 2017, but when Joss Whedon took over the film went in a different direction in many ways with the score being one of the changes.
Danny Elfman was brought in to score that version of the film. I remember initially being interested in his score and even made a blog post about that back in the day, but when the entire soundtrack was released I lost interest and ultimately stopped listening to it after a couple of weeks.
When the Snyder Cut was announced back in May 2020, it was eventually revealed that JunkieXL would come back and score this version of the film! JunkieXL revealed that he would be starting over from scratch and putting together something new for this original version. Jump ahead to March 18, 2021 and the score is released on iTunes and other streaming services. As a big soundtrack guy, meaning I pretty much only listen to soundtracks nowadays, I was excited for this release and yes, JunkieXL delivers!
For those interested in more and how he created the tracks in this soundtrack and others, check out his YouTube channel Studio Time for an in-depth look.
The soundtrack is so good that I have been listening to it nonstop since it’s release! With a total of 53 tracks sitting at 3 hours and 54 minutes, there is plenty to listen to on repeat for days on end!
JunkieXL has been involved in DC films since the Nolan trilogy and has worked with Hans Zimmer on these previous soundtrack releases, but he gets the entirety of this film to himself and he has put together a masterpiece. It’s one of my favorite soundtracks of all time already and one that will be in my playlist for a long time to come.
Well done Tom Holkenborg and thank you! Light it up Tom as you deserve this!
