Some Big Casting News for the Upcoming DC Films - Black Adam & Shazam! 2
It was announced today (via THR) that a new character in the upcoming Black Adam movie! Pierce Brosnan has been cast in the film and will be playing Kent Nelson! Who?
Kent Nelson is also known as Dr. Fate, a founding member of the Justice Society of America. It has previously been announced that Aldis Hodge will be playing Hawkman, with Noah Centineo playing Atom Smasher and Quintessa Swindell portraying Cyclone. All are members of the JSA.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods
Black Adam is the nemesis to Shazam, kind of like how Joker is to Batman. While there is a sequel to the Shazam! movie starring Zachary Levi as Billy Batson/Shazam, that is in production as well; it is unclear whether Black Adam will be released before or after Shazam! Fury of the Gods.
Helen Mirren joins the cast of Shazam! 2
It was also announced yesterday that Oscar winner Helen Mirren will join the cast of Shazam! 2 as the villain Hespera, the daughter of Atlas in the upcoming film! Shazam is story that is steeped in Greek mythology and it looks like Shazam! 2 will continue that tradition.
Black Adam is currently in pre-production with principal photography to begin soon, the film was originally set to be released in December 2021 but currently has no release date. Shazam! Fury of the Gods is currently slated to be released in July 2023.
UPDATE:
The Rock announced yesterday that Black Adam will release July 29, 2022, putting it ahead of Shazam 2. Hopefully, Black Adam will set up an epic showdown between the Shazam family and Black Adam! There’s so much potential with this corner of the DC Film Universe! I can’t wait for it!
